LV woman chosen for tax revenue panel

CARSON CITY -- Gov. Bob Miller has named the chief financial officer for Polo Towers in Las Vegas to the Economic Forum, the group that predicts future tax revenues for Nevada.

Diane S. Radunz, who is also the executive vice president of the business, will succeed Lois Roethel of Las Vegas who declined reappointment.

Earlier this year Miller had named Paul Fisher Jr. of Las Vegas to succeed Diane Jett, also of Las Vegas.

The five-member forum, composed of financial experts from the general public, meets before the state's biennial budget is prepared to estimate how much tax revenue will be received in the coming years.

The governor and Legislature cannot exceed these figures in their spending, unless they agree to tax increases.

Miller named Las Vegas City Councilman Larry Brown to the Nuclear Projects Commission to succeed Mayor Jan Laverty Jones, who declined reappointment. He also reappointed Clark County Commissioner Myrna Williams to a second term on the commission that provides oversight on the possibility that Yucca Mountain may be selected as the site for a high-level nuclear dump. The Legislative Commission earlier had reappointed Steven Molasky of Las Vegas to a second term.

The governor also named Williams and Mesquite Mayor Ken Carter to the state Aging Commission. Williams succeeds Clark County Commissioner Yvonne Atkinson Gates who was not eligible for reappointment after two terms. Carter replaces Bob Groesbeck who no longer qualifies as a city government representative.

Leroy Goodman of Fernley was named to the state Economic Development Board, succeeding George Dini of Yerington who resigned. Dick Peck of Las Vegas was appointed to the Subsequent Injury Fund for Association of Public or Private Employers to succeed Jack McClary, also of Las Vegas.
