Boxing May 30 at LV Hilton
Friday, April 10, 1998 | 11:32 a.m.
The Las Vegas Hilton will host a professional boxing card May 30, with World Boxing Association 154-pound champion Laurent Boudouani of France defending his title against Panama's Guillermo Jones in a rematch of a Feb. 13 fight in Albuquerque. In the companion main event, International Boxing Federation middleweight champion Bernard Hopkins, 34-2-1 with 26 knockouts, will defend his title against Robert Allen, 22-2 with 17 KOs. In the earlier bout between Boudouani and Jones, Boudouani retained his title with a majority draw in a fight scored 114-114, 114-114 and 115-114 for Jones. Each of the three judges gave Boudouani the 12th and final round; curiously, the judge who scored the fight for Jones gave Boudouani the final three rounds. Boudouani is 36-2-1 with 29 knockouts and Jones is 22-1-1 with 19 KOs. Don King Productions will promote the card and the Showtime cable network will televise. ... In another local boxing note, the opponent for Las Vegas-based super bantamweight Wayne McCullough April 17 in Uncasville, Conn., changed Thursday. McCullough, 20-1, will now meet Guillermo Noriego, 19-5, in the main event of a card to be televised by Fox Sports Net. The earlier announced opponent was Luigi Camputaro.
