The event, coordinated worldwide by Mobilization Against AIDS, commemorates the lives lost to AIDS, demonstrates support for people living with HIV/AIDS and mobilizes community-based response to HIV/AIDS.
The UNLV Campus Committee on HIV/AIDS will host the Las Vegas observance at 6:30 p.m. at the Valerie Pida Plaza on campus. A candlelight march to the site of the Las Vegas AIDS Memorial Garden, guest speakers and a reading of the names of Las Vegans who have died of AIDS are scheduled for the occasion.
The theme for this year's International AIDS Candlelight Memorial is "Rekindle the flame; renew the fight for global end to AIDS." Observances range from the lighting of candles and oil lamps in Southeast India to candlelit processions in Latin America to interfaith memorial services in the United States.
