Seven fast-food restaurants hit in series of armed robberies

In take-over-style robberies, two armed men have held up seven fast-food restaurants in three days, Metro Police said.

The most recent robberies -- four of them -- happened on Monday, robbery Detective Steve Popp said. The first restaurant was robbed April 3, he said.

"They're a series of robberies that we think are related," Popp said. "The one constant is that they're ordering everyone into the freezers."

The fast-food restaurants on the west side of the Las Vegas Valley west of U.S. 95 that have been robbed are Schlotzsky's, Carl's Jr., Arby's, Del Taco, Burger King and Rice-To-Go, he said. One restaurant was hit twice, police said.

Two gunmen entered the restaurants at night, and, in most cases, asked for a manager, Popp said. The men then ordered all of the employees inside the walk-in freezers and closed the doors while the managers, or in a few cases, clerks, emptied the cash registers, Popp said. No one has been injured.

The men then leave the store, he said.

"We don't have a vehicle description at this point," Popp said. "It's unknown."

Investigators have sketchy details about the robbers' descriptions, he said.

While investigators are working on a few leads, police are asking for the public's help, Popp said. He asked anyone with information on the robberies to call him at 229-3591 or Secret Witness at 385-5555.
