Senators tours Sunrise landfill, meet with residents

Reid and Bryan met in the back yard of some local residents to talk with representatives from the Environmental Protection Agency, the Bureau of Land Management and the Clark County Health District.

A recent BLM report found areas containing toxic and cancer-causing chemicals in the now-closed landfill on the eastern edge of Las Vegas.

The BLM has said no immediate health risk exists in the area above lagoons where the soil gases were found, but people should avoid the lagoons.

"We already have 31 years worth of who knows what buried out at Sunrise," Reid said. "Southern Nevadans need answers."

The Democratic senators said the agencies need to work together to solve the homeowners' concerns.
