Rebels take on Air Force

The UNLV baseball team will try to fortify its chances of earning a berth to the Western Athletic Conference Tournament when the Rebels host Air Force for a three-game conference series beginning Friday at 7:05 p.m. at Wilson Stadium. The Rebels (25-14 overall, 8-7 in the WAC) have the sixth-best winning percentage in the conference and only the top six teams qualify for the season-ending tournament in San Diego. Air Force is 10-24 overall and 4-11 in the WAC, having taken two out of three at home from Hawaii last weekend. The series continues Saturday at 1:05 p.m. and concludes Easter Sunday at 1:05 p.m.

In other UNLV news:

* The golf team remained the nation's top team in the latest edition of the national MasterCard rankings. The WAC had five teams ranked among the top 25. After UNLV came TCU (7), Colorado State (17), Brigham Young (21) and New Mexico (22). Individually, UNLV's Jeremy Anderson dropped one spot to third. Other Rebels ranked were Bill Lunde (11), Charley Hoffman (19), Chris Berry (65) and Scott Lander (88).

* The women's softball outhit Cal State Fullerton 12-6 but came up empty on the Titans' field Wednesday, losing a doubleheader by 1-0 and 3-0 scores. Brandi Isgar limited Fullerton to two hits in the opener but lost her 12th of 21 games for the season. The Rebels committed four errors in the nightcap as their overall season sank to 15-18.
