Obituaries for April 9, 1998

Larry C. Carle, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born May 8, 1927, in Missouri Valley, Iowa. A resident for 31 years, he was a retired science teacher at Gibson Junior High School 1967-1991, a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Excelsior Masonic Lodge 259 AF&M.

He is survived by his wife, Betty D.; three sons, Stephen Carle of Omaha, Neb., and Michael Carle and James Carle, both of Las Vegas; and six grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 4-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 10:30 a.m. Saturday in Palm Chapel, Jones. Graveside services will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.

LAWRENCE CARUSO

Lawrence "Larry" Caruso, 77, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 7, 1920, in Los Angeles. A resident for 27 years, he and his wife were retired owner-operators of the 7-Eleven at Vegas Drive and Twin Lakes in the 1970s and he was a World War II and Korean War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Mary; and one son, Craig J. Caruso of Las Vegas.

Services will be 11 a.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave. Graveside service will be private. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to the American Cancer Society, 1325 E. Harmon Ave., Las Vegas, NV 89119.

SIDNEY RICHARD CATSIFF

Sidney Richard Catsiff, 92, of Las Vegas died March 23 in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 6, 1905, in Philadelphia. A resident for 14 years, he was a space engineer and a member of the Association of CPAs and Illinois Professional Engineers Association.

He is survived by two sons, Roger and Steven; one brother, Harold; and one grandchild.

ANTHONY R. EUNICE

Anthony R. Eunice, 70, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in Las Vegas. He was born May 14, 1927, in Newark, N.J. A resident for many years, he was a boiler supervisor at a Veterans Administration Hospital and a Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Savilla; two sons, David and Gregory; one daughter, Beaches; and one brother, Elmo.

STEVE LEE FRAZIER

Steve Lee Frazier, 22, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Aug. 11, 1975, in Seoul, Korea. A resident for 1 1/2 years, he was a ramp agent at Honolulu Airport.

He is survived by his parents, Myong Chu and Stanley Carlton Frazier Jr., and one sister, Victoria Frazier, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 8:30 a.m. until 10 a.m. services Friday in Davis Paradise Valley Funeral Home, 6200 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

The family suggests donations to Sickle Cell Anemia or Suicide Prevention.

FRANKIE JOANNE GRANDSTAFF

Frankie JoAnne Grandstaff, 38, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 9, 1960, in Arkansas. A resident for 38 years, she was a waitress.

She is survived by one son, George Greenhalgh; her mother, Emma Alene Grandstaff; three brothers, Jearld Dennis Grandstaff, Clyde Anthony Grandstaff and Robert Allen Grandstaff; and two sisters, Opal Lynn Grandstaff and Johnnie Rae Bowers.

DOROTHY E. GRECO

Dorothy E. Greco, 86, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born July 24, 1911, in Joliet, Ill. A resident for 7 1/2 years, she was a retired film processor in the photography industry and a member of Women of the Moose.

She is survived by one daughter, Sharon Rau of Las Vegas; one son, Joe Greco of Scherrville, Ind.; one daughter, Susan Meaker of Orlando, Fla.; one grandchild and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

Shirley Group, 72, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born May 24, 1925, in Monmouth, Ill. A resident for seven years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Stuart Sr.; one son, Stuart Group Jr. of Sherman Oaks, Calif.; one daughter, Sharon Trussell of Bellflower, Calif.; four brothers, Du Wyanne Knox of St. George, Utah, Chuck Knox of Thousand Oaks, Calif., Jim Knox of Encinitas, Calif., and Leonard Knox of Reynolds, Ill.; four sisters, Marcella Scala of Yucaipa, Calif., Beverley Livermore of Raritan, Ill., Judy Howe of Monmouth and Sharon Cation of Dayton, Ohio; three grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

MARY ELIZABETH JOHNSTON

Mary Elizabeth Johnston, 54, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local convalescent hospital. She was born May 30, 1943, in Massachusetts. A resident for three years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Marshall; two daughters, Michell and Stacy; one brother, Joseph Campbell; and one sister, Virginia Slate.

WALTER W. JUSTICE

Walter W. Justice, 70, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospice. He was born Sept. 10, 1927, in Great Falls, Mont. A resident for eight years, he was a hotel timekeeper and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Jane; one son, Rick Justice of Mount Helen, Mont.; one daughter, Sue Miller of Concreek, Wash.; two stepsons, Robert DeSola and Steve DeSola, both of Chandler, Ariz.; three stepdaughters, Tina Frayer and Lisa Webber, both of Las Vegas, and Peggy Bingham of San Carlos, Calif.; one brother, Don Justice of Great Falls; and 12 grandchildren.

Harry V. Lange, 78, of Boulder City died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Dec. 5, 1919, in Calamus, Iowa. A resident for 19 years, he was a retired service station owner-operator and a World War II Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Wiona W.; three daughters, Beverly Chunka of Omaha, Neb., Bonnie Mealman of Mount Vernon, Iowa, and Brenda Potter of Monmouth, Iowa; one son, Bill Lange of Mount Vernon; three sisters, Emma Meyers of Tipton, Iowa, Sophie Kahl of Clarence, Iowa, and Elfrieda Hutchinson of Branson, Mo.; one brother, John Lange of Tipton; 13 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

WANETA MILDRED PATTERSON

Waneta Mildred Patterson, 84, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born March 9, 1914, in Indiana. A resident for 22 years, she was a homemaker and a member of the Eagles Lodge in Attica, Ind.

She is survived by one daughter, Beverly Patterson of Las Vegas; one sister, Catherine Helmrick of Attica; and one grandchild.

Services will be 10 a.m. Saturday in Bunkers Chapel. Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

ROSA L. QUINN

Rosa L. Quinn, 67, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local hospice. She was born Jan. 4, 1931, in St. Louis. A resident for four years, she was a beauty salon operator.

She is survived by one stepson, Jim Quinn of Woodacre, Calif.; and one sister, Mattie Lockett of Las Vegas.

A memorial service will be 10 a.m. Saturday in the First AME Methodist Church. Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

JOE S. ROMERO

Joe S. Romero, 72, of Henderson died Monday in Henderson. He was born Feb. 14, 1926, in New Mexico. A resident for six years, he was a fabricator in the aerospace industry and an Army veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Herlinda; one daughter, Alice Ortiz of Washington state; two brothers, Jesus Romero and Horace Romero, both of New Mexico; five grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

JOSEPH ROBERT SANTORO

Joseph Robert Santoro, 81, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospice. He was born May 8, 1916, in New York. A resident for 24 years, he was a hairdresser.

He is survived by his wife, Elizabeth Lee; two daughters, Adrienne Santoro and Barbara S. Mathys, both of Las Vegas; one brother, William Santoro of New York; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

MARION R. SELLE

Marion R. Selle, 88, of Las Vegas died Monday in Las Vegas. She was born Jan. 31, 1910, in Brooklyn, N.Y. A resident for 22 years, she was a retired biology and laboratory science teacher in New York City schools for 30 years.

She is survived by one daughter, Joanne Urioste of Las Vegas; one son, Robert R. Selle of Washington, D.C.; one brother, Harry Rositzke of Middleburg, Va.; and six grandchildren.

SHIRLEY RUTH SMITH

Shirley Ruth Smith, 72, of Henderson died Tuesday in Boulder City. She was born Aug. 22, 1925, in Cincinnati. A resident for 13 years, she was vice president at Union Central Life.

She is survived by one aunt, Dorothy Vail of Cincinnati.

FRANCES A. SNOWER

Frances A. Snower, 79, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. A resident for 28 years, she was born Aug. 4, 1918, in New York.

She is survived by two daughters, Marsha Siegel of Los Angeles and Rosalind Harrison of Baltimore; and four grandchildren.

MONTGOMERY 'MONTE' SYKES

Montgomery "Monte" Sykes, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 5, 1926, in Milwaukee. A resident for 11 years, he was a retired police officer, a World War II Army and Navy Reserves veteran, a member of NAFB Retired Affairs, Radio Club of Las Vegas and Moose Lodge of Henderson.

He is survived by his wife, Leone; four daughters, Sherri Sykes, Michelle Sykes, Kelly Olson and Shawn Ehlers, all of Wisconsin; three sons, Mike Sykes of Wisconsin, Stephen Sykes and Patrick Sykes; two stepdaughters, Toni Gossman of Las Vegas and Terri Jones of Kansas; one stepson, Bob Gossman; one sister, Pat Bruecker of Wisconsin; and many grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Sharon E. Wheeler, 43, of Henderson died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born May 30, 1954, in Alamosa, Colo. A resident for 10 years, she was a paralegal.

She is survived by one daughter, Amanda Wheeler of Alamosa; one son, Jack Wheeler of Denver; her mother, Ida Mac Canales of Fort Garland, Colo.; and one grandchild.

RHODA KLINE WRIGHT

Rhoda Kline Wright, 66, of Las Vegas died April 1 in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Jean, La. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired cafeteria worker in the education system.

She is survived by three sons, Lawrence S. Davis, Cleophus Kline and Anthony Davis, and two daughters, Beatrice Floyd and Linda Allen, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, the Rev. Enoch Kline Jr. of Richmond, Calif., the Rev. Edward Kline Sr. of Tallulah, La., and Samuel Kline Sr. of Las Vegas; six sisters, Geneva Sanders, Mary Lucy Williams, Olivia Thompson, Emma Ree Weston, Thelma Robertson and Laura Dorothy Washington, all of Tallulah; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Arnold Zweig, 74, of Henderson died Wednesday in a local hospital. Former owner of Budget Car Rentals and a World War II Army veteran, he was born June 13, 1923, in New York City.

He is survived by his wife, Stephanie; two daughters, Shelley Workman of Henderson and Sondra Skipworth of Las Vegas; one son, Barry G. Zweig of Panama Beach, Fla.; one stepson, Jon Reale of Las Vegas; one sister, Lee Rushall of Loya, Calif.; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Services will be 9:30 a.m. Friday in Palm Chapel, Eastern. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park.
