Letter: Meeting with Housing Authority administrator accomplishes nothing

The tenants tried numerous times to have the Housing Authority "right the wrongs," with no response.

On March 25, the administrator of Housing Authority of Las Vegas called a meeting to be held at the Sartini building. Tenants were hopeful, for Mr. Brown had not been to their complex for a long time and had, in essence, ignored any requests.

Their hope of anything being resolved was not only shattered, but additional fear of living peacefully in years of retirement or the security and peace of mind for the disabled came decidedly to the forefront in no uncertain terms.

Freedom of Speech, as we once knew it? Voice in your tenant council? Rights of privacy in the content of your records? The wonderful feeling of being in a nation with all the rightful privileges of a citizen of our nation? The stability that goes with the main office housing staff that cares about the tenants?

These were all eliminated by the administrator of our housing of the city of Las Vegas.

The meeting he conducted was the most sad occasion I have ever attended. He arrived with an entourage which would make Elvis Presley's look minimal. He threatened tenants with security if they spoke up more than once, with the excuse they were being loud or argumentative, (they were not). He had a microphone set up, but when people said they couldn't hear him, he told them in a voice of disdain, to "move up front," the second time anyone complained, he hollered, "move!" Oh yes, I must mention the people that requested this were mostly those in wheelchairs or used canes, their reason for being in the back.

My message I want to send strongly to tenants. Do not let anyone threaten your rights. Stand up and be counted when you know you are right.
