Letter: Decision in Jones case victory for U.S. justice

Consider that women in general will benefit from Judge Wright's action. Without benefit of dismissal, no corporation or individual would risk the liability of hiring a potential Paula. The glass ceiling would be lowered significantly. With the dismissal, there are no charges outstanding against President Clinton. This condition will remain well after the end of his term.

The Jones impact of the Starr activity remains to be seen. His position is weakened, if but nothing else, by trend. Trend and momentum are significant factors in any legal action. Granted, Starr has an advantage in that he reports to no judge, per se. Congress is in a position to dispose of any purported evidence. It is most probable that Congress will emulate Judge Wright.

The GOP wants no impeachment which would evolve an incumbent Gore for 2000. The Congress can see no benefit of impeachment to voters. Poll approval ratings remain high. In fact, he who votes for impeachment may well have voted to end his career. The GOP has no agenda, but cannot afford one of impeachment and witch hunt.

Given the above, Clinton will finish his term and may seek to take revenge. No doubt he will sue Paula for defamation after he leaves the White House. The Rutherford Institute will lose their nonprofit status.

The Wright decision is a victory for the American justice system -- she is to be congratulated.
