Johnson, a sergeant with the force, has been acting chief since February. He was named chief by Don Denison, head of the state Department of Motor Vehicles and Public Safety.
Johnson started his law enforcement career in 1967 with the Pasadena Police Department, and joined the Nevada Capitol Police in 1980.
