Greenspuns plan Green Valley gaming hotel

HENDERSON -- American Nevada Corp. is moving ahead with plans for an $80 million to $100 million, 600-room hotel-casino at the intersection of I-215 and Green Valley Parkway in Henderson.

The project will be near two other American Nevada hotels, the recently opened 126-room Residence Inn by Marriott, and a soon-to-open 155-room Courtyard by Marriott. Both of those hotels are owned by American Nevada and managed by Marriott International Inc.

Rick Smith, vice president of office and industrial properties for American Nevada, said the project is still "very much in the concept stage."

Though the City of Henderson has OK'd the site for a hotel/casino, American Nevada has yet to submit an architectural plan to city planning regulators.

"The specifics have not yet been completed," Smith said.

The casino will include a spa and health club, recreational facilities and a full array of casino games.

"It'll be a traditional casino," Smith said.

American Nevada is talking to several potential operating partners for the hotel/casino, but has not yet sought financing. The project is at least a year away from ground-breaking, and would not likely open until late 2000, Smith said.

American Nevada is owned by the Greenspun family, developer of Green Valley and owner of the Las Vegas SUN.

The American Nevada project is one of several planned for Henderson. A planned 200-room PT's Mining Company hotel-casino will be considered by the City Council April 21. The Council killed a plan for a 200-room Gaim-Ko casino earlier this week.

Also pending are plans for a 300-room hotel-casino to be owned by Santa Fe Gaming Corp. adjacent to Galleria Mall; and a 200-room casino, the South Pacific, to be owned by Manley Development.

Two other projects, including casinos called Lucky Stars and Margaritaville, have been proposed for Henderson. Details of these projects were not available.
