Elderly man, teen shoot in drive-by

A 71-year-old man is in critical condition after a drive-by shooter shot him and a teenager, North Las Vegas Police said.

About 6:50 p.m. Wednesday, Ebbster Bass was sitting in his parked car on West Street near Carey Avenue and Martin Luther King Boulevard in North Las Vegas, talking with a woman. Nearby were two teenagers, 17 and 18, Lt. Michael Blackwell said.

A gunman drove by in a late-model, maroon, four-door compact car and opened fire, hitting Bass once in the chest and the 18-year-old twice in the abdomen, Blackwell said.

The vehicle then fled.

The gunman was still at large this morning, Blackwell said.

Bass was in critical condition today at University Medical Center's trauma unit, a nursing supervisor said. The unidentified 18-year-old was in serious but stable condition at UMC, the nursing supervisor said.
