Easter storm heads toward Sierra

A winter storm watch goes into effect Friday afternoon in the Lake Tahoe area above 7,000 feet and runs through Friday night. A watch begins Friday night in Mono County and continues through Saturday.

A strong low pressure area off the California coast will bring another round of wintery weather to the northern and central Sierra on Good Friday.

Snow will begin across the northern Sierra in the afternoon and will spread south into Mono County by nightfall. The snow may be heavy at times and accompanies by gusty southwest winds.

Possible snow accumulations with this storm are 6-12 inches above 5,500 feet and a foot or more above 7,000 feet, the National Weather Service said late Thursday.

Snow levels could fall to the valley floors in western Nevada at times Friday night and the outlook called for unsettled weather to continue through Easter Sunday.
