Chiropractor says charges are old news

The charges stem from the 1993 death of an infant Hansen had treated and whose parents he subsequently referred to Elko General Hospital.

"That was five years ago," Hansen told the Elko Daily Free Press. "Then they searched my office and nothing was done."

Hansen is scheduled to appear before the board for an administrative hearing July 25-26. The board could impose disciplinary sanctions ranging from a letter of reprimand to fines to revocation of a chiropractic license.

The charges stem from an administrative and criminal investigation connected to Hansen's claim to cure cancer with a whirlpool type of bath that is supposed attack cancerous cells with ionized oxygen atoms.

The Elko County sheriff's department seized Hansen's bath, bank accounts and records in January, alleging fraud and racketeering. No criminal charges have been filed.

Hansen has filed a civil suit for return of the items and an estimated $10,000 in his accounts. Elko County District Attorney Gary Woodbury said he has filed a motion to dismiss the civil suit because it was filed in Elko District Judge Jack Ames' court instead of District Judge Mike Memeo's court, where the search warrant originated.

"They're trying to come up with something, anything, to get at me," Hansen said.
