Board of Equalization sets value for Reno Air

Michael Pitlock, director of the state Taxation Department, said Thursday the higher value had been based on inadequate information from Reno Air, which asked for and got a chance to submit more data to his agency.

After the new data was reviewed, agency staffers came up with the lower valuation, Reno Air agreed, and the Board of Equalization approved the figure that's used to establish property taxes the airline will pay in the coming fiscal year.

"Reno Air had failed to provide enough information for the department to look at, so the department went ahead at first with the best information it could find," Pitlock said. "But after reviewing the additional information, the two sides came to an agreement."

Pitlock didn't have the exact tax bill for Reno Air. He said that since the airline is centrally assessed, each Nevada county will use part of the overall valuation to levy taxes based on their specific tax rates.

Of the $21.1 million, $6.5 million is allocated to Washoe County, where Reno Air is headquartered. Another $3.1 million is allocated to Clark County while Nye is allocated $2.8 million, Mineral is allocated $1.7 million and Esmeralda County is allocated $1.5 million for tax purposes.
