Volunteers sought for Operation Desert Clean-Up

The clean-up will take place on the northwest corner of Lake Mead Boulevard and Tenaya Avenue -- behind Cimarron-Memorial High School -- from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m.

There will be a raffle, free food, drinks, t-shirts and water bottles. Lark Williams of 97.1- FM, "The Point," will host the event. U.S. Sen. Richard Bryan, D-Nev.; Rep. John Ensign, R-Nev.; Las Vegas City councilmen Larry Brown and Arnie Adamson; Clark County Commissioner Lance Malone; gubernatorial candidate Kenny Guinn and several others are scheduled to attend.

The clean-up will save the taxpayers nearly $40,000 in clean-up fees, officials said. On April 18 the Clark County Conservation District and UNLV's Environmental Studies Department will sponsor the Boulder City Wetlands clean-up event. The Wetlands is located in the Veteran's Memorial Park on Buchanan Boulevard adjacent to the Boulder City Airport.

Volunteers will be pulling weeds, removing dead plant debris and assisting in the general clean up from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m. Refreshments will be provided. For more information on the Wetlands clean-up, call Darlene Cartier at 895-4495.
