Strip hotel to be imploded April 27th
Wednesday, April 8, 1998 | 8:36 a.m.
The event is scheduled at sunset that evening.
The Aladdin is the latest Las Vegas resort to make a spectacular exit.
The first was the Dunes Hotel in October 1993, followed by the Landmark in November 1995. The Sands Hotel was imploded a year later and the Hacienda was demolished in a New Year's Eve spectacle in 1996.
The tower closed in November and the site is being cleared for two resorts that will make up a $1.3 billion hotel-casino and retail complex.
The Aladdin implosion will include a benefit for the Make-A-Wish Foundation of Southern Nevada, which grants requests for sick and terminally ill children.
