Letter: Cut back on foreign aid and spend money at home
Wednesday, April 8, 1998 | 11:31 a.m.
Our GIs in every war had a heart for kids and those in need -- enemy or friend made no difference, for we have a heart.
This is America. They call us the melting pot and so it may be. We love freedom and liberty, but the entire world we cannot support forever and a day. For our people are being taxed until, in America, there is no longer liberty. We lose the very thing our heritage bought for us. Taxation without representation. Those we put in office can vote themselves a raise. Can we, the working people, do the same?
Perhaps it's time we stopped the waste in government and spending and helped those of us at home -- Americans you know.
For all the world could watch us starve and never a qualm. Who is there to help the United States of America? Americans only -- not the world, they could care less.
We are the chumps -- the ones who try to bring freedom for all and all we get in return is a kick in the you-know-where.
Perhaps it's time we stopped world support and took care of our own people in need. Perhaps it's time we take stock and start the charity at home.
America first and always and God bless her people, the Bill of Rights and our Constitution. For only America can preserve the free world -- but please, not at the cost of our own liberty.
Wake up, America. Let us not lose what we have fought for and died for and what we believe in.
