Volunteers clear trash out of wash

More than 600 people picked up so much trash in the Las Vegas Wash Saturday that officials were still counting it on Monday. "We're still adding up the boxes," said Marty Flynn, spokesman for the Clark County Sanitation District.
Southern Nevada Water Authority, the sanitation district, Friends of the Desert Wetlands and a host of other agencies, including Silver State Disposal Service, pitched into the effort to clear away junk left near the proposed wetlands park and along remnants of a once-healthy desert marsh. Volunteers discovered plenty of empty shell casings.
"There's a lot of shooting going on," Flynn said.
Someone found what was thought to be a needle, but it turned out to be a syringe casing. No illegal medical wastes were discovered, Flynn said. A water information fair and a guided tour of the wash was offered.
