Obituaries for April 7, 1998

Elizabeth "Betty" Bennett, 73, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 11, 1925, in Glasgow, Scotland. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Ronald A.; and two sons, Jack Bennett of London and Brian Bennett of Las Vegas.

Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

GERTRUDE BERNER

Gertrude Berner, 74, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Aug. 2, 1923, in New York City. A resident for four years, she was a retired comptroller in the motion picture industry.

She is survived by two brothers, Larry Berner of Las Vegas and Bernard Berner of Florida; two nieces and two nephews.

Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

ANITA L. DEGEORGE

Anita L. DeGeorge, 53, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. She was born June 19, 1944, in Philadelphia. A resident for five years, she was an optician.

She is survived by her husband, Bill; two daughters, Andrea DeGeorge and Danelle Houghton, both of Prospect Park, Pa.; and one brother, Anthony Marziani of Glenolden, Pa.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

SALLY Y. KAWASAKI

Sally Y. Kawasaki, 62, of Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born July 7, 1935, in Lanai City, Hawaii. A resident for 11 years, she was a general manager for a fire protection firm.

She is survived by her husband, Henry; three daughters, Terri Takabayashi and Lynn Kawasaki, both of Honolulu, and Laurie Ribuca of Ewa, Hawaii; two brothers; three sisters; and three grandchildren.

Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave., is handling arrangements.

WILLIAM KNOWLTON

William Knowlton, 66, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 7, 1932, in Greensboro, N.C. A resident for 22 years, he was a retired government investigator, a Korean War and Vietnam War Army veteran and a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 9774.

He is survived by two daughters, Barbara Brantley of Lillington, N.C., and Karen Bodine of Eugene, Ore.; two sons, William Knowlton Jr. of Las Vegas and Dennis Knowlton of Spokane, Wash.; and 10 grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 10 a.m. Thursday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

HELEN MENKING

Helen Menking, 88, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospital. She was born Jan. 26, 1910, in Minot, N.D. A resident for 24 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Patricia Mullen of Las Vegas; one brother, Thomas Witham of Whittier, Calif.; one sister, Harriett Kent of California; two grandchildren, four great-grandchildren and three great-great-grandchildren.

DONNA J. ORAM

Donna J. Oram, 53, of Las Vegas died Sunday in a local hospice. She was born Aug. 15, 1944, in South Bend, Ind. A resident for 18 years, she was a teacher.

She is survived by her husband, Thomas Mark; two sons, Michael Oram and Angelo Oram, both of Las Vegas; her father, George Rozow of Lowell, Ind.; and two sisters, Millie Rozow of Hobart, Ind., and Jo Ann Benda of Valdez, Alaska.

Services will be 4 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

VIRGIL POLLOCK

Virgil Pollock, 76, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born May 3, 1921, in Altamont, Kan. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired hotel-casino painter and a World War II Army Air Corps veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Henrietta; his stepmother, Edith Pollock of Altamont; and two stepbrothers, Robert of Kansas City, Mo., and Sonny of Overland Park, Kan.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 2 p.m. services Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave.

The family suggests donations to L.C. High School, Department of Music, Marion Pollock Memorial Fund, Altamont, KS 67330, or the donor's favorite charity.

FREDERICK 'TOM' RITTMAN

Frederick Thomas "Tom" Rittman, 50, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born April 4, 1948, in Stockton, Calif. A resident for 44 years, he was a hotel department head of stage props, a member of the Stagehands Union and Kappa Sigma Fraternity.

He is survived by his parents, Frederick and Clarace Rittman, and one sister, Nancy Froistad, all of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled 3-7 p.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 11 a.m. Thursday in Shadow Hills Baptist Church. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

DONALD V. TAYLOR

Donald V. Taylor, 75, of Pahrump died Sunday in a local hospital. He was born May 14, 1922, in Tekamah, Neb. A resident for nine years, he was a retired self-employed farmer and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Josephine; four daughters, Sherry Parker of Pahrump, Linda Barr of Ceres, Calif., Janet Coe of Boulder, Colo., and Annis Seimer of Golden, Colo.; four sons, Donald L. Taylor of Pahrump, Gene Taylor of Modesto, Calif., Ron Musselman of The Dalles, Ore., and Robert Taylor of Monmouth, Ore.; and 14 grandchildren.

SAMUEL WALLACE WRIGHT

Samuel Wallace Wright, 72,, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Oct. 6, 1925, in Pennsylvania. A resident for 16 years, he was a supervisor at a steel factory, a Korean War Army veteran and a member of the Elks Lodge.

He is survived by two sons, Jessie Wright and Gary Louis Wright; one daughter, Roxanne; and one grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

ANN ELIZABETH ZABRISKIE

Ann Elizabeth Zabriskie, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. She was born June 5, 1925, in Nashville, Tenn. A resident for nine years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by her husband, Norman; one daughter, Jean Zabriskie of Garden Valley, Calif.; two sons, Anthony Steven Leu of Los Angeles and Tracy Zabriskie of Manhattan Beach, Calif.; one brother, James Murphy of Sloan; one sister, Rose Shoulders of Henderson, Tenn.; and three grandchildren.

Services will be 1 p.m. Wednesday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd. Burial will follow in Paradise Memorial Gardens.

NICHOLAS ZANGARI

Nicholas Zangari, 72, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born July 15, 1925, in Italy. A resident for 25 years, he was a retired Metro Police officer and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by two daughters, Nicole McNally of Henderson and Marie Zogg of Albany, N.Y.; one son, Peter Zangari, and one brother, Peter Zangari Jr., both of Syracuse, N.Y.; one sister, Natalie Mafrici of Central Square, N.Y.; and nine grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Wednesday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.
