Naval station says increase in phone rate excessive

They say the hike, which amounts to $64,000 a year, came with little warning in the form of a fax from Churchill Telephone Co. on March 31 advising of a public hearing two days later on the rate change.
They add that the boost, effective May 1, takes place in the middle of a fiscal year and was not budgeted for, the Lahontan Valley News and Fallon Eagle Standard reported.
The phone company said the boost was justified because the Navy's rates on local private line services had not gone up since 1993.
