Devan Rivera and Kevin Houser were both 16 when they killed Ismael Arevinas in December 1996 near the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area west of here.
District Judge Joseph Bonaventure Monday sentenced Rivera and Houser to life in prison with the possibility of parole. Both defendants must spend at least 35 years in custody.
Houser, now 17, was awaiting sentencing in another shooting case when he helped kill Arevinas. Houser was out on bail at the time of the fatal shooting.
