Letter: Right wing misleading on harassment policy
Tuesday, April 7, 1998 | 11:09 a.m.
I will simply state my point, which is that there would be no debate if only race, color, creed, ethnicity and religion were mentioned. The crowds of right-wing political correctness storm troopers only appeared because the word "sexual orientation" was included.
In the world of controlled ideas, if a word is not mentioned, a few can pretend that the word being referred to does not exist, either. Can it truly be that 10 percent of humanity can be whipped out simply by cold-heartedly turning our backs on them and not saying the word.
In Utah, not long ago or even very far away, all school clubs were banned because a gay group wanted the same human rights as others, to meet on campus and provide support and understanding.
It is blatant intellectual dishonesty to pretend the objection is about kids with freckles or obesity not being included in the list. These right-wing storm troopers would not be there but for one expression of consideration for a segment of our population who have committed no crime, but in the sense of everything American want to live their lives without fear of oppression by their neighbors or big government.
Political correctness, in the hands of the right-wing, has become the burning of books, the hiding of ideas and now the big lie: If the word is not spoken, it does not exist.
We must save our America from these new monsters, these masters of the ruse.
