Wild turkeys released to promote bird’s spread in Nevada

Nine hens and two toms were released on the Goodin Ranch in Upper Valley. The birds were trapped by wildlife biologists in the Mason Valley Wildlife Management Area near Yerington.

The release will bolster the small population of turkeys that remain in the Lovelock area from an initial release of birds in 1990, wildlife officials said.

The program's aim is to provide an additional source of upland game hunting in Nevada.

Officials said the turkeys should be able to adapt to conditions in the Lovelock area, but their biggest threat will be coyotes.
