Obituaries for April 6, 1998

Frank Ballard, 74, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born Feb. 6, 1924, in Dubuque, Iowa. A resident for 31 years, he was a grocery store liquor manager, a World War II Army veteran, a member of Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 8 and the Confederate Air Force.

He is survived by his wife, Jeanne; one daughter, Nancy Short of Murrieta, Calif.; one son, Tom Ballard of Las Vegas; three grandchildren and four great-grandchild.

Services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. A private burial will follow.

DONALD J. BREMER

Donald J. Bremer, 69, of Henderson died Friday in Henderson. He was born May 3, 1928, in Minnesota. A resident for nine months, he was a farmer.

He is survived by his wife, Irene.

Burial will be in Minnesota. Hites Funeral Services, 438 W. Sunset Road, Henderson, is handling arrangements.

ALVIN ALFRED BREWTON

Alvin Alfred Brewton, 82, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. He was born Dec. 19, 1915, in Dinuba, Calif. A resident for 39 years, he was a carpenter and a member of the Carpenter's Union.

He is survived by one daughter, Desma Brewton Morrison of Las Vegas; and two grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 9:30-10:30 a.m. Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 11 a.m. Wednesday in Eden Vale Memorial Park.

ELIZABETH V. CRODDY

Elizabeth V. Croddy, 91, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. She was born March 21, 1907, in Indiana. A resident for 26 years, she was a cosmetologist.

She is survived by one son, Charles; and six grandchildren.

No local services are scheduled. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

GEORGE W. FIELDS III

George W. Fields III, 72, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospice. He was born Jan. 24, 1926, in Indiana, Pa. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired torpedo specialist and a World War II Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Anna; one daughter, Georgia Torrisi of West Greenwich, R.I.; two sisters, Patricia Peterman of Hampton, Va., and Lenora Sumner of Lady Lake, Fla.; two grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Affordable Cremation and Burial Service, 2457 N. Decatur Blvd., is handling arrangements.

WALTER H. GREEN

Walter H. Green, 88, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local care center. He was born Feb. 10, 1910, in Rome, Ga. A resident for 39 years, he was a retired maintenance engineer for the Las Vegas SUN.

He is survived by three sisters, Lucille Mixon of Reno, Nell Babjack of Clinton Township, Mich., and Marie Bustamonte of Honolulu; two brothers, Clarence Green of Gainesville, Fla., and Gardner Green of of Albuquerque, N.M.; and several nieces and nephews.

Visitation is scheduled 5-7 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd. Services will be 10 a.m. Tuesday in Palm Chapel, Jones. Graveside services will follow in Memory Gardens.

GEORGE N. HOFFMAN

George N. Hoffman, 77, of Las Vegas died Saturday in a local hospital. He was born July 2, 1920, in Salt Lake City. A resident for 37 years, he was a retired engineering technician at the Nevada Test Site, a World War II Army veteran and a member of American Legion Post 8.

He is survived by his wife, Jean; three daughters, Susan Ramos and Cathy Nickum, both of Las Vegas, and Karen Ostrander of Riverside, Calif.; three sons, JR Behymer of Washington state, Thomas Hoffman of California and Donald Hoffman of Colorado; one brother, John Hoffman of Alabama; seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren.

Services will be 7 p.m. today in American Legion Post 8. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., is handling arrangements.

The family suggests donations to American Legion Post 8, Boys State Scholarship Fund, 733 N. Veterans Memorial Drive, Las Vegas, NV 89101.

FRANK PATTON

Frank Patton, 58, of Las Vegas died Saturday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 8, 1939, in Colorado. A resident for four years, he was a truck driver and a Vietnam War Navy veteran.

He is survived by his wife, Lorraine; his father, Jeff Patton, and one brother, Tom Patton, both of Craig, Colo.; and one sister, Elise Wilson of Deer Lodge, Mont.

Visitation is scheduled 3 p.m. until a 6 p.m. service Tuesday in Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd.

FAE STEWART

Fae Stewart, 83, of Las Vegas died Friday in Las Vegas. She was born May 30, 1914, in Logandale. A lifelong resident of Southern Nevada, she was a retired elementary school teacher for more than 30 years in Las Vegas and a graduate of the University of Nevada, Reno.

She is survived by one daughter, C. Lynne Johnston of Agoura Hills, Calif.; two brothers, Jack Wittwer of Layton, Utah, and Glade Wittwer of Alexandria, Va.; and seven grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 10 a.m.-noon Wednesday in Bunkers Mortuary, 925 Las Vegas Blvd. North. Graveside services will be 2 p.m. Wednesday in Logandale Cemetery.

DEBORAH R. TOMPKINS

Deborah R. Tompkins, 47, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local hospital. She was born March 3, 1951, in Cambridge, Mass. A resident for seven years, she was a professional jazz vocalist, a member of the Screen Actors Guild and Society of Singers.

She is survived by her mother, Catherine F. Tompkins of Massachusetts.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Tuesday in Woodlawn Cemetery. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

RHODA KLINE WRIGHT

Rhoda Kline Wright, 66, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Nov. 26, 1931, in Jean, La. A resident for 12 years, she was a retired cafeteria worker in the education system.

She is survived by three sons, Lawrence S. Davis, Cleophus Kline and Anthony Davis, and one daughter, Beatrice Floyd, all of Las Vegas; three brothers, the Rev. Enoch Kline Jr. of Richmond, Calif., the Rev. Edward Kline Sr. of Tallulah, La., and Samuel Kline Sr. of Las Vegas; six sisters, Geneva Sanders, Mary Lucy Williams, Olivia Thompson, Emma Ree Weston, Thelma Robertson and Laura Dorothy Washington, all of Tallulah; 14 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.

Visitation is scheduled 2-3 p.m. Thursday and 1-7 p.m. Friday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St. Services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in the Greater Carver Missionary Baptist Church. Graveside services will follow in Woodlawn Cemetery.
