The department will finance faculty research grants and student participation in various activities under the pact signed on Monday.
University scientists will have access to research facilities including the Nevada Test Site and Sandia and Los Alamos National Laboratories in New Mexico.
Projects in the planning stage include a high energy density center and a plasma research facility at the University of Nevada, Reno and a center for studying the properties and behavior of solid materials at UNLV.
