CASKEY FUND-RAISER -- Griffith Elementary School is holding a carnival and yard sale April 25 to help defray funeral and medical expenses for the Caskey family. The event will be held from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. in the school parking lot, 324 Essex Drive, north of Alta Drive between Valley View and Decatur boulevards. Heather Lynn Caskey, 10, a fourth-grader at Griffith, and her mother, Tonya Caskey, 37, were killed when the family's southbound 1989 Ford crossed the median and hit a 1989 Lincoln head-on on U.S. 95 near Lake Mead Boulevard March 20. Authorities are unsure why driver John Caskey, 39, lost control of the wheel at the time of the accident. He has since been treated and released from University Medical Center. Amanda Caskey, 12, a sixth-grader at Hyde Park Middle School, and Jenna Caskey, 5, were still hospitalized at UMC on Sunday. Jenna remained in critical condition in the intensive care unit, and Amanda was listed as serious, a nursing supervisor said. All proceeds from the April 25 event will go to a trust fund established at Nevada State Bank, event organizers said.
