Obituaries for April 3, 1998

Roberto Araiza, 42, of Las Vegas died Tuesday. He was born June 7, 1955, in Mexicali, Mexico. A resident for 20 years, he was a cement mason.

He is survived by three sons, Jerry Sandoval and Carlos Sandoval, both of Las Vegas, and Bobby Araiza May of Henderson; his father, Eutimio Araiza of El Tuito, Mexico; his mother, Crispina Bravo of Tepic, Mexico; two brothers, Guillermo Araiza of Las Vegas and Jorge Araiza of Tepic; four sisters, Ofelia Araiza of Yelapa, Mexico, Rosa Araiza of San Jose, Calif., and Socorro Araiza and Lady Araiza, both of Tepic; and three grandchildren.

Visitation will continue until 8 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

HERMAN JOHN BEUTH

Herman John Beuth, 75, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. He was born Sept. 4, 1922, in Milwaukee. A resident for 10 years, he was a retired boilermaker, an Army veteran and a member of Clark County Senior Citizens of Henderson.

He is survived by two sons, Herman John Berth Jr. and Danny Berth; three daughters, Roseann Atkins, Mary Lish and Kathy Jo Cerasani; three sisters, Eleanore Zeske, Evelyn Nowak and Ruth Markison; nine grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren.

Services will be 2 p.m. Sunday in Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North.

CHRISTOPHER BOLING

Christopher Boling, 5 months, of Las Vegas died Feb. 26 in Las Vegas. He was born Sept. 30, 1997.

He is survived by his mother, LaVonne Burrell.

Graveside services were 10 a.m. today in Woodlawn Cemetery. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, handled arrangements.

ELAINE S. DIAMOND

Elaine S. Diamond, 69, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. She was born Sept. 26, 1928, in Cincinnati. A resident for eight years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two daughters, Joni Diamond of Granada Hills, Calif., and Sandy Diamond of Henderson; one son, Jack Diamond of Irvine, Calif.; and two grandchildren.

Graveside services were scheduled at 2 p.m. today in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave., handled arrangements.

TABITHA GARCIA

Tabitha Garcia, 17, of North Las Vegas died Monday in a local hospital. She was born Oct. 8, 1980, in Bellflower, Calif. A resident for 11 years, she was a student at Rancho High School.

She is survived by her father, John Garcia of Phoenix; four sisters, Cynthia Belpidio and Sabrina Garcia, both of Las Vegas, Bernadette Garcia of Honolulu and Lisa Garcia of Hawaii; and one brother, John Garcia of Hawaii.

Visitation is scheduled 11 a.m. until 2 p.m. services Sunday in Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St.

BEVERLY J. GELLER

Beverly J. Geller, 44, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospital. She was born Feb. 11, 1954, in New York. A resident for 19 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one son, Daniel Morrow; two daughters, Kimberly Morrow and Wendy Sutton; one brother, Raymond Geller; and one sister, Rita Geller.

Graveside services will be 1:30 p.m. Saturday in Woodlawn Cemetery. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

EVERETT E. GILLETTE

Everett E. Gillette, 74, of Sunland, Calif., died Tuesday. He was born March 28, 1924, in Cordova, Minn. A former resident of Las Vegas for 20 years, he was a retired police officer and a World War II Marine Corps veteran.

She is survived by two sons, Rand Gillette of Las Vegas and Daniel Gillette of Sunland; one daughter, Theresa Gillette of Sunland; three grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 11:30 a.m. Monday in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Palm Mortuary, 1325 N. Main St., is handling arrangements.

DAPHNE L. JACOBSEN

Daphne L. Jacobsen, 75, of Henderson died Wednesday in Henderson. She was born Aug. 1, 1922, in El Reno, Okla. A resident for four months, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by one daughter, Patti Giles of Henderson; one son, Larry Jacobsen of Ojai, Calif.; four grandchildren and three great-grandchildren.

Graveside services will be 1 p.m. Saturday in Palm Mortuary, 800 S. Boulder Highway, Henderson.

MELVIN L. MALMUD

Melvin L. Malmud, 71, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Aug. 18, 1926, in New York City. A resident for nine years, he retired from the Horseshoe hotel-casino poker room as a brushman in 1996, was a World War II Navy veteran and a member of Jewish War Veterans of America.

He is survived by his wife, Helen; one daughter, Jan Cobb of Las Vegas; one son, Jeff Malmud of Wantagh, N.Y.; one brother, Red Malmid of Tamarac, Fla.; and two grandchildren.

Services were scheduled at 1:30 p.m. today in Palm Mortuary, 7400 W. Cheyenne Ave.

DONA I. MARTIN

Dona I. Martin, 66, of Las Vegas died Wednesday. She was born May 1, 1931, in Lucerne, Wyo. A resident for 49 years, she was a retired federal government clerk.

She is survived by one son, Scott Martin, and one brother, Harry Kelly, both of Las Vegas; one sister, Lucy E. Davis of Tucson, Ariz.; five grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.

JOHN PHILLIP MAUHAR

John Phillip Mauhar, 79, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Jan. 2, 1919, in Kansas City, Mo. A resident for nine years, he was a railroad yardmaster.

He is survived by one son, John Mauhar; two sisters, Margaret Michael and Aleen Smith; five grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren.

Timmy J. Odom, 30, of Las Vegas died Sunday in Las Vegas. He was born Oct. 5, 1967, in California. A resident for four years, he was a cook.

He is survived by one son, Timothy Joseph Odom; and two brothers, Ray Barnes and Jamie Odom.

BILL PAPAGNA

Bill Papagna, 78, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in a local hospital. He was born Nov. 5, 1919, in Youngstown, Ohio. A resident for 43 years, he was a retired bar/restaurant owner-operator, a World War II Army veteran, a member of the Elks, Italian American Club and Spanish Trail Country Club.

He is survived by his wife, Betty Jo; two sisters, Virginia Winwood of Phoenix and Eleanore Papagna of Las Vegas; two brothers, John Papagna of San Francisco and Thomas Papagna of Las Vegas.

Visitation is scheduled one hour prior to 10 a.m. services in Palm Mortuary, 7600 S. Eastern Ave. Burial will follow in Palm Valley View Memorial Park. Palm Mortuary, 1600 S. Jones Blvd., is handling arrangements.

Eugene Ray, 65, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local hospice. He was born Oct. 31, 1932, in Ohio. A resident for 10 years, he was a teacher, a Korean War Army veteran, a member of the California Teachers Association, American Legion and Veterans of Foreign Wars.

He is survived by his wife, Nancy; two sons, Gene Stephen Ray and James Ray; three daughters, Lory Lynn Lomeli, Melinda Reveria and Melissa Smith; his mother, Ethel Ray of Ohio; one sister, Judy Mohr; and 12 grandchildren.

Burial will be in Southern Nevada Veterans Memorial Cemetery, Boulder City. Desert Memorial Cremation and Burial Society, 1111 Las Vegas Blvd. North, is handling arrangements.

ROY G. SHANKS

Roy G. Shanks, 90, of Las Vegas died Tuesday in a local care center. He was born May 17, 1907, in Missouri. A resident for 46 years, he was a meat distributor.

He is survived by his wife, Marlene; three sons, Ron Webber, Dan Webber and Rick Webber; one daughter, Kathleen Keeslar; one sister, Juanita Berdhola; and eight grandchildren.

EVELYN MARIE SWAGER

Evelyn Marie Swager, 70, of Las Vegas died Wednesday in Las Vegas. She was born March 7, 1928, in Haleyville, Ala. A resident for 31 years, she was an office manager for Harden Insurance Co. for 27 years and a member of Insurance Women Association.

She is survived by two sons, Leon J. Swager III and William A. Swager, and her mother, Susie Brakefield, all of Las Vegas; four grandchildren and one great-grandchild.

Services will be 5 p.m. Saturday in Davis Funeral Home, 2127 W. Charleston Blvd.

HELEN F. WELSH

Helen F. Welsh, 84, of Las Vegas died Friday in a local health care center. She was born Sept. 26, 1913, in Decatur, Ind. A resident for 12 years, she was a homemaker.

She is survived by two sons, Tom Welsh of Las Vegas and James Welsh of Whittier, Calif.; one brother, Don Koos of Decatur; one sister, Alice Gardner of Flint, Mich.; four grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
