Letter: Nation founded on religious tolerance

I have no problem with references to Jesus in public prayer. People are free to worship any way they wish and should not be offended by others' method of worship. However, that is where my agreement with Proctor ends. His statement about the United States being a Christian nation is outrageous.

Had Proctor managed to complete the third grade, he might have learned about the separation of church and state. He is correct that this country is neither a Muslim nor a Jewish country, but neither is it a Christian country. It was the founding fathers' intent to make it a country open to all forms of worship.

Proctor states that this country was "founded on Christian principles." I'd like to remind him that Christianity was founded on Jewish principles and that his opinion completely contradicts the founding fathers' intent.
