DAVID HAYNES had another one of those nights, overwhelming the lanes in his huge victory over a stellar local field in Nadeau's Pro Shop Six-Gamer at Santa Fe Lanes March 28.

Haynes roared to a 1565 total (260 average). He started with a strong 269 then left the field in his shadow with fourth and fifth games of 289 and 300.

Runner-up and tournament host Dan Nadeau had a 300 of his own in his 1418 total and stayed just ahead of Tim Schwerdtfeger, 1401, who had a pair of 268s.

Also finishing in the money were young chargers Cliff Smith, 1382, and Jay Nakaya, 1365, power player Darryl Smith, 1346, and smooth Rick Benard, 1343. Darryl Smith took the Skins Game spoils while Harold Mountain had 40 consecutive clean frames to win the Storm Warning competition.

The field averaged 211 in this high-scoring affair and it took a 224 pace just to cash. Haynes' win was his second straight NTBA Bowl Nevada title, as he became the first bowler to score a double this year. His 260 average is an NTBA record.

The next NTBA Bowl Nevada event is Big Al's 92s Challenge, an eight-gamer set for The Orleans at 10 a.m. Sunday. Mike Monyak is defending champion. For information, call NTBA founder Bart di Bartolo at 435-7474.

* SSBT: Hal Wilber rolled to his 12th Senior Scratch Bowlers Tour title at the Santa Fe. Ken Knee was the leader until the last game, when his 196 allowed Wilber to go around him. Call tournament director Gary Walters at 646-8466 for SSBT information.

* COMING UP: The Gold Coast has its weekly Survival Shoot-Out at 11:30 p.m. Thursday with a $25 entry fee. Call tournament director Jason Gupton at 367-4700 for details.

* COACH'S CORNER: Practicing is the only way to stay sharp and work on the weak parts of your game. But don't keep score. Don't just shoot for a strike ball. Make your spares. If you have a certain problem with a certain spare (such as a 10 pin), take time to roll an entire game at just the 10. Try rolling a strike line using all four arrows. Each lane is different and some just won't work, but the practice sharpening your mental game will do you some good.
