Backers of tribal recall to file appeal

Tribal members voted Saturday to retain him by a 226-144 margin. But Lloyd Wyatt claims there were problems with tribal members not being notified that they had to register to vote for the election. He said many people he talked to assumed they were eligible to cast their ballots.

Leah Wyatt-Davis said backers of the recall would file an appeal of the election results.

"I believe that they have strayed away from the constitution and the bylaws," she said. "I guess they expect us to lie down, but no, we will appeal."

Wyatt also said there would be a candidate to challenge Wallace in the fall election.

Wallace has been accused of financial mismanagement of the tribe - a charge he denies.

Former tribal council member Benny Mills contends the tribe has sustained steady losses in its ranch operations in recent years and that money has been diverted from smoke shop revenues.
