Letter: Run for elected office and ride the ‘good ol’ boy’ bus
Thursday, Oct. 30, 1997 | 10:52 a.m.
Wanted: Financial backing for the purpose of running for political office in Clark County. If elected, I promise to collect a paycheck every two weeks for four to six years; seldom show up to work; obtain retirement and health benefits and, if possible, I will find a way to have all of my legal expenses paid for by the taxpayer should I screw up. Isn't that the way it is supposed to be?
And should one of my employees or a citizen blow the whistle on me, I will be allowed to ruin their lives and deprive them and their families of the same things in life that I get to enjoy by means of a paycheck from monies collected by the citizens of the city and county. After all, who's going to stop me? The county commissioners? The City Council? No way. They're too busy covering up their own corruptive practices.
Seems to be a lot of press and public disgust lately about county officials, but how soon we forget that Constable Bob Nolen is still sitting at home collecting his check even after two independent state hearing administrations found him to be guilty of "misuse of office," unfair labor practices and untruthful testimony under oath. The district attorney's office won't investigate him; it represented him.
So, if you can't beat 'em, why not join them? Let me know if I can get a ride on the "good ol' boy" bus.
