Lyon County Fire Chief suspended
Wednesday, Oct. 8, 1997 | 10:56 a.m.
Its fire chief of just over a year has been suspended following Tuesday night's emergency meeting of the fire board to discuss unspecified offenses.
Chief Rick Martin has seven days to respond to the charges and the suspension. He did not attend Tuesday's meeting.
Martin was named chief Aug. 18, 1996. He joined the department two years ago after moving to Dayton from Browns Valley, Calif., where he said he had 23 years of experience in emergency services and was an assistant fire chief.
The previous chief, Bill Dekker, stepped down from the post in March 1996, one month after he was arrested for drunken driving after he brushed a firefighter with a fire engine while fighting a blaze behind the Mark Twain volunteer fire station.
