* ALLIANCE GAMING TABS CEO -- Alliance Gaming Corp. announced the appointment of Morris Goldstein as president and CEO. "I am very pleased to be joining Alliance Gaming and look forward to working with the management team to achieve the company's full potential for its shareholders, customers and employees," Goldstein said in a statement today. Prior to joining Alliance Gaming, Goldstein, 52, was CEO of Thomson Technology Initiative, a unit of Thomson Corp., which is a global publisher and provider of information services with aggregate revenue of over $8 billion. In that position, he was responsible for developing enterprise-wide technologies and business strategies to support the electronic information distribution requirements of that company's more than 400 publishing units.

* STATION CASINOS DROPS SUIT -- Station Casinos Inc. voluntarily dropped its federal lawsuit against a Las Vegas company that had been accused of using the company's casino names on the Internet. The suit, dismissed Wednesday, charged CC Communications Inc. of co-opting the Internet domain names "boulderstation.com," "texasstation.com" and "kansascitystation.com." The gaming corporation said in the April lawsuit that the public associated those domain names with Station Casinos, and the alleged unlawful use of the names creates confusion and a potential loss in profits. Each domain name is registered with Network Solutions Inc. on a first-come, first-serve basis. CC Communications never responded to the complaint, according to Station Casinos attorney Bradley Booke. It appeared, however, that the company had removed the web sites associated with those domain names because they could not be accessed Wednesday.

* TOP PRINTING COMPANY MOVES -- The nation's second largest printing company was praised by Gov. Bob Miller for its decision to open a plant in Fernley with up to 400 employees. Miller said Wednesday at a news conference that the decision by Quebecor Printing Corp., which announced its plans at a recent Fernley Town Board meeting, means "the addition of a great corporate citizen." Assembly Speaker Joe Dini, D-Yerington, whose district includes Fernley, said state lawmakers have worked to provide incentives that will bring such businesses to Nevada. Jim Dawson, president of Montreal-based Quebecor, said the new plant will be designed to print retail newspaper inserts for distribution throughout the West.
