Judge Dismissed Suit Against Vegas Television Station

The latest dismissal came Tuesday in a ruling by visiting District Judge Norman Robinson of Minden.

Robinson ruled that television station KVBC-TV was protected by the First Amendment when it broadcast the names of Patrina Chastain and Brian Horne, who had been missing about two weeks before their bodies were discovered last summer near Nelson.

Horne's parents filed a suit against the station, claiming invasion of privacy, intentional infliction of emotional distress and negligent infliction of emotional distress.

Another suit filed by Chastain's father was previously dismissed by District Judge Bill Maupin.

Chastain said he learned about the deaths while watching the newscast, and contended that the station had a responsibility not to air the names until he was notified first.

Station attorneys, however, said the station was simply reporting the truth when it broadcast the story.
