Letter: Nonsmoking policy will not harm Las Vegas casinos
Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
I think everyone is overlooking a very important part of this smoking vs. nonsmoking thing. The Occupational Safety and Health Administration's ban on smoking in the workplace is not new, it's just tardy in getting to casinos. OSHA is not just targeting gambling in Las Vegas, it's a ban to be put into effect in all gambling establishments. And if it is put into effect in all casinos across the U.S. at the same time, it wouldn't have the effect that's being thrown around. People don't come to Las Vegas to smoke, they come to gamble, and they will always come to gamble, regardless.
The naysayers in California said the restaurant industry would truly suffer. People in California still eat in restaurants, and they are opening new ones every day! Here's to our health.
