Ely awaiting new post office
Wednesday, Dec. 18, 1996 | 11:59 a.m.
The U.S. Postal Service is looking for 2.33 to 2.5 acres within Ely's city limits. That will allow room for a building that's eight times bigger than the current one and that has far more parking space.
Once the land is purchased and the building constructed, the East Ely post office will be phased out and the current main office will become a branch.
The new post office will have 5,000 boxes, a postal store and a pack and send counter where customers can bring in an unwrapped item and have all the packaging items needed to make it mail-ready.
"We're trying to update to give the people the same services available in larger communities," Camacho told the Ely Daily Times.
