Lake Mead hosting open house

National Park Service rangers and volunteers invite Southern Nevada residents for cookies, hot drinks and book browsing at the annual Lake Mead National Recreation Area holiday open house.
The public is invited to stop by the Alan Bible Visitor Center from 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Dec. 13, 14 and 15 to visit with park staff and enjoy free refreshments.
The visitor center bookstore features unique gifts including books about Nevada history, desert plants and animals, Hoover Dam, and posters, postcards and videos. The Southwest Parks and Monuments Association offers an open house bonus with a 15 percent discount on all sales.
The Alan Bible Visitor Center features exhibits on the Lake Mead National Recreation Area and has a number of videos on the park to view and enjoy. The center is open seven days a week all year, except for Thanksgiving, Christmas and New Year's Day.
The visitor center is located four miles northeast of Boulder City off U.S. Highway 93.
