To qualify for the award, which is judged on the merit and worth of the applicant, a student must have fulfilled the following during high school years: Service, dependability, leadership, and clear sense of purpose.
TOP YEARBOOK -- The 1995 Basic High School yearbook was among 21 yearbooks nationwide to receive the top honor in yearbook excellence, the Gold Crown Award, from Columbia University in New York. The 1995 El Lobo yearbook is titled "Between Extremes." The adviser is John Gilmour. The award was announced during the recent Columbia Scholastic Press Association awards ceremony in New York.
UPWARD BOUND -- Clark High sophomore Rochelle King was chosen from 110 eligible Upward Bound students from the UNLV Chapter to represent Nevada at the National Council of Educational Opportunities annual conference in Washington, D.C. She met with Nevada senators and congressional representatives and assisted in explaining the Upward Bound program.
ROTARY AWARDS -- Clark High students Jennifer Hale, Leslie Block and John Tang were chosen to attend the Rotary Youth Conference as recipients of the Rotary Youth Leadership Awards. The students were selected based on academic performance, leadership ability and a written essay on current events.
