Washoe District Judge Peter Breen on Tuesday granted Newmont Gold Co.'s request for the restraining order against Barrick Gold Corp.
Both companies operate gold mining operations in northern Eureka County.
The ruling orders Barrick to cease pumping water from its Betze-Post pit to Newmont's TS Ranch reservoir effective Monday.
Newmont claimed the pumping made the ground soggy around its mine.
The preliminary injunction will remain in effect until the issues are resolved at trial, currently scheduled for Sept. 16.
In a statement issued by Barrick, company officials said the ruling will have no effect on its Betze-Post operations or the planned start-up of the Meikle Mine this fall.
