Skidmore Contracting Corp. of Las Vegas has been awarded an $8.3 million contract to build a three-story motel at Nellis Air Force Base.
The motel will house airmen temporarily stationed at Nellis during training exercises. The 47,000-square-foot structure will not replace existing housing, a base official said.
The money was funded under the 1995 military construction appropriations bill and was announced Monday by Sens. Harry Reid and Richard Bryan, both Democrats.
Skidmore is a general contractor with headquarters in Mesa, Ariz. The project is expected to employ 20 to 45 people and use local subcontractors, Skidmore project manager Lyle Randall said.
The Nellis motel is the company's first military contract, Randall added.
