Glen Gondrezick sank two free throws with 10 seconds remaining Saturday night to lift eighth-ranked UNLV to a come-from-behind 99-96 victory over third-ranked Louisville at Las Vegas Convention Center.
UNLV trailed by as many as 17 points, 40-23, with 6 ½ minutes remaining in the opening half. But the Rebels went on a 20-9 spree to close the gap to 49-43 at halftime.
The Rebels went ahead to stay at 95-94 with 1:51 remaining on Gondrezick’s jump shot. Reggie Theus hit a pair of free throws for UNLV with 56 seconds left to make the score 97-94.
Ricky Gallon of Louisville tipped in a shot with 30 seconds left to cut the Rebels’ advantage to 97-96 but Gondrezick made his clinching free throws after being fouled by Rick Wilson as UNLV attempted to run out the clock.
