Spectacle opens lavish Tropicana

Tropicana producer Monte Proser, who had promised to unveil the most spectacular revue ever to hit Las Vegas, did just that last night with his opening night show in the lavish Theatre – Restaurant of the resort hotel.

Starring TV and radio star Eddie Fisher, making his Vegas debut, this revue also starred the spectacular specialty dancing of Broadway stars, Tybee Afra, and Elaine Dunn.

The Theatre – Restaurant has two runways leading from the stage around the restaurant to the back of the house, which provides a "center theater" effect with performers almost elbowing the audience.

Broadway musical director, Nat Brandwynne, provided the musical background for the show. At the conclusion the first night audience loaded with local VIPs and Hollywood celebrities rose and gave Eddie Fisher a tremendous ovation at the conclusion of his melody of popular songs.

They threw away the keys at the Hotel Tropicana in a prevue opening yesterday.

Running 24 hours a day from here on in, the $15 million resort hotel permanently swung open its doors and also braces itself for an influx of visitors from across the country with the formal opening today.

During yesterday's ceremonies, dignitaries from city and county groups presided over the ribbon cutting with Dee Sharon, Miss Tropicana, and touched off an influx of more than 12,500 guests entering by the front door alone.
