11th Annual Emerald Ball “Carnivale” Celebration
Hosted by the Theta Theta Omega Las Vegas Chapter of
Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated & 20 Pearls Foundation, Inc.

Proceeds support scholarships, national initiatives, and local community service programs
Las Vegas, Nev. – April 1, 2014 – The Theta Theta Omega Las Vegas Chapter of Alpha Kappa Alpha Sorority, Incorporated, in conjunction with the 20 Pearls Foundation Inc., a 501(c)3 organization, is pleased to announce our 11th Annual Emerald Ball “Carnivale” on Saturday, April 12 from 6 to 11 p.m. at the Rio All Suites Hotel & Casino in the Brasilia Ballroom.

The Emerald Ball is the Theta Theta Omega Las Vegas Chapter’s annual fund raiser in support of scholarships to help local high school seniors continue their education to the college or university of their choice, national initiatives, and local community service programs. This year’s event features a silent auction, raffle, door prizes, dinner and dancing. The master and mistress of ceremony are Fred Keeton, vice president finance, external affairs and chief Diversity officer for Caesars Entertainment, and Lisa Mack of Menopause the Musical® at Luxor Las Vegas. In addition, there will be live entertainment from Lady S and Intrigue along with other performers.

Theta Theta Omega Las Vegas Chapter will also recognize the following individuals and organizations who support our program initiatives:

1. Emerging Young Leaders (EYL) - This signature program impacts the lives of 10,000 girls in grades six through eight by providing leadership development, civic engagement, enhanced academic preparation and character building. The increasing demands of the twenty-first century mandate our youth to be better leaders at a younger age making smart choices with positive consequences.

2. Health - These initiatives encourage personal fitness and healthy life styles. We will support organizations which advance access to treatment and coordinate awareness and advocacy campaigns to reduce health disparities, save lives and impact health related legislation. Co-sponsored health forums will address: diseases which disproportionately affect women and minorities, prevention and treatment options.

3. Global Poverty - The goals for this initiative are to end hunger, preserve the environment and empower women. This program provides food production skills and training in self-reliance through gifts of seeds, livestock and training in environmentally sound agriculture. Education in sustainable food practices will make women equal partners in ending poverty and hunger. Alpha Kappa Alpha continues its membership and consultative status with UNESCO (United Nations Educational Scientific and Cultural Organization). We have global partners for self-help projects and awareness campaigns within the United States and abroad.

4. Economic Security - This effort expands current programs related to wealth building and allocation of resources, home ownership, estate planning, support and empowerment of female owned businesses and urban enterprise zones.

5. Social Justice and Human Rights - These initiatives address gender equality issues including: human trafficking and domestic violence, services for children with incarcerated parents, youth aging out of foster care and children in homeless shelters. Voter empowerment; access to technology; training of parents as advocates for educational and health care needs of children and support of the arts.
