UNLV Students Propose Nocturnal Theme Park for Las Vegas Strip

Published on Tue, Apr 1, 2014 (5:27 p.m.)

LAS VEGAS, NV –Travis Williams, Mark Gu and Meghan McGaugh, former MBA students at the University of Nevada, Las Vegas (UNLV), have created the idea for Omnia Las Vegas– a nightlife venue highlighted by extreme amusement park attractions. Omnia is Latin, meaning “All”, and this park will encompass everything that is exciting and unique about Las Vegas.

Williams, Gu and McGaugh have built a business plan to bring this unique idea to fruition. The venue, which would be located on the south end of the Las Vegas Strip, will be at the forefront of sustainability and engineering. This nocturnal amusement park for adults will include extreme rides, next generation arcade games, a nightclub, bars and concert space. Omnia will cater to resident thrill seekers and tourists chasing a “natural high.”

“Non-gaming revenue is currently at an all-time high in Las Vegas, but we do not have any prominent non-gaming venues that serve the needs of both tourists and locals,” said McGaugh. “Las Vegas is the second most-visited tourist destination in the U.S. and one of the only major metropolitan cities without a large scale theme park.”

The idea started in 2012 as a concept for a business plan in the team’s New Venture Management class at UNLV. They have recently applied to the Disney Techstars Accelerator program in hopes of bringing the park to fruition in Las Vegas.

“It started as just a class project, but we quickly realized it could become a reality. We were all passionate about the idea and began moving forward with the concept,” said Gu.

“We have received great feedback from the community,” Williams said. “Our plan has been vetted by angel investors and prominent business men and women within Las Vegas. The Las Vegas planning committee has approved our proposed location and we have a diverse group of theme park experts from across the globe on our advisory board.”

The team’s next steps is to complete a feasibility analysis and build an investor-ready platform. They hope the Disney Accelerator program will make this a reality.
