Signature Productions Embarks On A Musical Voyage

Published on Mon, Mar 24, 2014 (10:54 a.m.)

One of Broadway’s biggest and boldest hits, “Les Misérables”, embarks on a musical voyage March 31 through April 26, 2014 at the Summerlin Library and Performing Arts Center located at 1771 Inner Circle Drive. Shows are at 7:30pm nightly except Tuesdays and Sundays along with two matinee shows on Saturday, April 12th and 26th at 2pm. Tickets are $30 for adults, $28 for seniors & students and can be purchased online at SignatureProductions.net or by calling 878-PLAY.

Signature Productions has assembled a truly talented cast. The actors will evoke a series of emotions that will leave the audience breathless. Aiding in this endeavor is an amazing set; a non-traditional, original design created by Gregory Crane of Gregory R. Crane Designs. The bi-level structure is a character unto itself; professionally built by Stan Judd, Daniel Wright and Leigh Cunningham. It will breathe life into those that walk upon it and bring to the forefront the destitution of nineteenth century Paris just before the French Revolution. The intimate 284 seat theatre will allow audience members to journey through the characters troubled and tortured lives and feel as if they have become part of the production itself.

Based on the novel of the same name by French poet and playwright Victor Hugo, “Les Misérables” is a sung-through musical opera that tells the story of Jean Valjean and his quest for redemption after serving nineteen years in jail for stealing a loaf of bread. He breaks his parole in hopes of starting a new life, but is hunted relentlessly by police inspector Javert. That pursuit leads him to a life-long struggle for redemption when he agrees to adopt the child of a friend, a fateful decision that changes his life forever. With revolution in the air and Javert closing in, Jean Valjean has no choice but to fight for his life and sacrifice everything to protect the people he loves. “Les Misérables” is an epic and uplifting story about the survival of the human spirit.

French composer Claude-Michel Schönberg composed the celebrated score. Some of the most memorable songs include “I Dreamed a Dream”, “One Day More”, “On My Own”, and “Master of the House”. The Broadway musical won eight Tony Awards, including Best Musical and Best Musical Score. “Les Misérables” is the longest running musical in the world.
