Sun Expanded Coverage

(The Sun has gone on the road to listen to voters and talk to political leaders around the West. Reporters will examine the economic, cultural and demographic forces re-shaping the region as they drive to Denver for the first of the two major party conventions the Sun will cover.)

ALBUQUERQUE -- Our second stop interviewing voters today was a Chevron right near Kirtland Air Force Base.

William Lee, on a motorcycle, not voting for Sen. John McCain because he's too old. Not voting Obama, however. Voting Green or Libertarian. Iraq War is a sham, he said, but the bigger issue is economy.

Karen Garcia, voting McCain because "He's a Christian. He's against abortion, gay marriage, and other things we're against," she said. She's a born-again Christian. As for the war, "We have to trust our leaders, and he's a good leader."

Obama is having real problems with lower information voters.

  1. "Obama is having real problems with lower information voters."

Another way to phrase that, Coolican, is:
"McCain's having massive success with ignorant and uninformed voters."

    What a surprise.

  2. Not really. And that's not what I was saying. Some people have other responsibilities and interests and pay no attention to politics. This doesn't mean they're ignorant. Or uninformed. Just uninformed about this race and all its backs and forths and players and issues and such. Many will learn quite a bit before November. Among these voters, sometimes Republicans win them, sometimes Democrats do.

  3. I agree with theBS...Obama is having trouble connecting with voters who are bitter folk who cling to guns and religion to deal with their problems.

Those dumb hicks......when will they get smart like those Starbucks drinking yuppies.

Obama commerical: "Hey dumb uniformed hick.....drop your gun and stop reading your Bible....Listen to me you ignorant backward lowly person....Vote for me...I was a state senator for 7 years and have been in the US Senate for 3 years. I am real smart. I will solve the world's problems!

This commerical is approved and presented by Obama..The Messiah to the World!!!!!!"

  4. McCain a christian? Christian my a**

  5. Anyone not voting for Obama is uninformed or ignorant. Wake up kool aid drinkers. We don't want to live as you demand. We want to heat and cool our homes. We want to be able to drive without taking a mortgage out on homes that aren't worth anything as Nevada loses residents and jobs. We are smart enough to know if we use American energy resources for American jobs, life will get better for everyone except the cultural elite who Hope Change will enlighten them.
Tell Harry Reid, we want to open drilling and build nuclear plants NOW.
