Vegas Play of the Day: Minnesota at Wake Forest

Here’s the latest installment of the Play of the Day, which uses odds from the South Point. Our three sports writers started with a $10,000 bankroll — fictional, of course.

Minnesota at Wake Forest, Total Over 135: $550 to win $500 : Buyer beware: My Achilles’ heel in sports handicapping is playing college basketball games over the points total. The total in this game, though, immediately caught my attention because it is too low.

Minnesota averages 74.8 points per game. Wake Forest checks in at 72.6 points per game. If both teams score at their average, the game will comfortably go over by 10 points.

Richard Pitino’s team at Minnesota resembles the Louisville squad his father coaches. Both teams try to create offense off pressure defense. Both like to play in transition.

Minnesota averages 18 assists per game, which is the 12th best mark nationally out of more than 300 teams. Teams who share the ball, score the ball.
