Milwaukee team grabs lead at USBC Open

The battle for the Regular Team title at the United States Bowling Congress Open Championships continued to rage this weekend with two Wisconsin teams fighting for the top spots.

Linds Limited (3,449) of Milwaukee reclaimed the lead from Tubo 2-N-1 Grips 1 of Madison, Wis. with games of 1,081, 1,216 and 1,152 at Cashman Center Sunday night. Turbo had previously held the lead with 3,403. Sack Toe of Sacramento, Calif. nearly jumped into first place with a 3,427.

Lennie Boresch Jr. led Linds Limited with a 743 series, which included the second perfect game of his 28-year tournament career. That 300 game was was the 11th perfect roll in this year's event.

"From what I heard about the lane condition, I thought 3,400 was a big number, but we really turned it on at the end, and we got there," Boresch Jr. said.

In addition to Boresch Jr.'s stellar outing, Linds Limited broke the 3,400 mark with a 716 by Dale Traber, 696 by Gary Daroszewski, 667 by Ryan Lever and 627 by Gus Yannaras.

The veteran Linds Limited squad, which has won 11 titles in 141 years of USBC Open experience, benefited finished strong with 12 of 15 possible strikes in the final frame.

"We picked each other up the whole night because that's what a team does," Boresch Jr. "We've been doing this a long time. We could've put our heads down, but we helped each other out and rallied back."

Sack Toe of Sacramento, Calif., which nearly overtook Linds Limited, surged to second place with games of 1,097, 1,138 and 1,192. Robby Callan led Sack Toe with a 767 series, which featured 17 strikes in a row at one point.
