Las Vegas Bowl, area high schools team up for breast cancer awareness this Friday

As part of October's National Breast Cancer Awareness Month, the Pioneer Las Vegas Bowl and local high schools are teaming up to raise support.

Taking part in a program this Friday will be 23 Southern Nevada area high schools, including football cheerleading squads and dance teams performing that night. They will do so while wearing pink hair ribbons.

Commemorative pink ribbon T-Shirts will be provided to the participating schools, which will be awarded to fans attending Oct. 10 games. Also, two tickets to the Dec. 20 Las Vegas Bowl at Sam Boyd Stadium will be provided to each school's athletic department to be used at their discretion, and a monetary donation will be made on behalf of each school to the Nevada Cancer Institute.

“Our bowl game has grown into a tremendous success thanks to the support of the football fans of Southern Nevada and we wanted to get more involved in the community that has been so great to us,” said Las Vegas Bowl executive director Tina Kunzer-Murphy. “Teaming up with local high school football games during National Breast Cancer Awareness Month is a unique partnership we feel strongly about.”
